Batch and cullet are usually stored in silos made of concrete or steel. They are designed to keep the raw material flowing to avoid the formation of stagnant areas.
Special attention must be given to areas prone to extreme weather. Under cold temperatures the raw material can be stored in a separate building alongside the actual batch house. The warmed material is moved to batch house storage silos using an automatic storage and retrieval system.
Cullet for the production is stored in silos in the batch house or open storage areas and are classified by glass quality or colour. When necessary, the cullet is moved to the storage silos by front end loaders.
